Overcoming Obstacles

Filed under: Uncategorized — Caren Ware @ 9:10 pm

Lake Placid, New York is a very pleasant surprise.  After the TRAFFIC of Boston, to be in  placid LAKE PLACID with great restaurants, cozy cottages, and Whiteface Mountain Ski Lodge is quaint. What a nice thing to know that there is more to New York…than New York City. The ski lodge is allowing us to dig holes, use the snow blowers as spray for the race, and ditch tires and hay bails all over the runs, and hammer up ‘obstacles” in their vacationland.  It is really pretty here.IMG_2892 IMG_2896 IMG_2897 IMG_2898 IMG_2899 IMG_2906  The lodge supports downhill mountain bikes and has a Gondola right to the top, but of interest is this platform lift that takes you up to heights of free fall fright and lets you jump onto a puff pad that is not so assuredly puffy from that height.

I am not sure who had more fun and adventure, the participants or the staff or fellowship and friendship from Grand Dynamics.  Look at the jewel of a time they had just setting up and tearing down the course.  Life is just discovery to them at any age. These are the kind of guys that ride their bike from the center of town in Jackson, 20 miles to a lake, swim across it, hike up to the Grand, climb the Grand and return the way they came, arriving in town at 2am in the morning and smilingly call it ‘picnic day’.
