A workday…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Caren Ware @ 6:06 pm

This weekend? When that 2:30 a.m. alarm goes off   I always ugh.  But not for long.  The events start filling with personality.

The Saturday dawned at  The AutoClub Speedway in Fontana. The Speedway and neighboring cities  hosted something rare…a FREE run, walk, bike, roller, stroll with a stroller for ANYONE who wanted a healthy tour of a racecar race track. They called it the Lefty’s Healthy Community Run/Walk.   It was FUN.  Home Depot was there with stations to build things. The speedway had their NASCAR car out on display.  A soccer clinic was giving soccer agility drills.  We liked the idea of a well staged event from start to finish that encouraged everyone and anyone to participate.  Thousands did. Lefty is a little toy remote speed car.  And the Lefty’s program lets kids read their way to seats in Nascar races.

It is even more challenging when that same alarm buzzes at that same robbing hour the next am.  Sunday had the morning rays peaking through high-rise buildings in Century City on Ave of the Stars for the Justice Jog.  Once registration and the finish line were in place before the soon to arrive crowd, I stole a few minutes and jogged through the fully deserted am streets.  These buildings were grand statements of keen architects.  The beauty and serenity of running among this towering feats with the first sun beams casting lines and welcoming shadows was as rewarding as flying at eye level along the Andes.  I was surprised that these glass and metal giants produced a sense of awe that I thought would only arise on top of a mountain or on a sunsetting, sandy beach. Is it because the Creator of the Mountains gave us a touch of His creativity.  There is something soley different about mankind.  That was my second of ponder for the day.  Got to get back to that race.

Yes, people are  different.  This Justice jog crowd was very enjoyable.   People at the Justice Jog seemed to be there in style, with their families or dogs or both, hoistering balloons  ordoing the event in  high heels.  The race was won first overall by a female.  That is as race as a free race.  But this gal is rare.  Rosario Castaneda trains and runs for RUN WITH US.  She said she would email me and tell us a little about herself.  There are some very talented Los Angeles based women who are dedicated to running. I think Rosarios’s secret is she is a strong hill runner so when there is a flat course she hammers.
