Mike Barber, the man that saved SANTA!

I knew there was a story behind this race.  Saw an expo booth promoting a race called Santa to the Sea on December 12, 2010 in Oxnard. I skipped over and shook hands with Mike Barber.  So many of you have historically driven past this concrete Santa on top of a building on your way to Santa Baraba.  Well, it was in danger of being demolished so this man took it on as a project to SAVE Santa.  That lead to the mass relocation of the building size Santa to a peice of land off the 101 that Mike donated.  The community poured in help.  Home Depot donated landscaping. Others poured concrete.  Still more layed a brick foundation.  And now, you have Santa safely nestled on the north side of the 101 as you decend into Camarillo.  Since he now had a Santa , Mike thought it a nice idea to have a toy drive.  When the total pile of toys donated didn’t even nearly match the needy request for thousands of toys, he came up with the run.  So here’s a FUN thing to put on your calendar for the gift of giving at Christmas.  Come run this run on December 12 and place a toy at the foot of Santa for their toy drive…then run to a festival finish at the Harbor.  It is a point to point where buses will take you out to Santa to run back.  WHAT A TREMDOUS KICK.  I told mike my staff had to meet Santa and we did.  www.santatothesea.com

Mike has made snowmen and toy soldiers to keep Santa company.  I think the whole project has made his life interesting.  Very out of the box! Smile.
